Polymetallic gold-silver-copper mineralization
discovered in Mauken Greenstone Belt
Follow up work on the recently discovered invisible gold
mineralization (see News from 10 okt. 2011) has led to new insight
in an unusual polymetallic gold-silver-copper mineralization in
Mauken Greenstone Belt Gold Project.
Through our ongoing exploration program, Scandinavian Highlands
has identified that whilst originally a gold target, that a
significant polymetallic gold, silver and base metal mineralization
also exist at Mauken Greenstone Belt. This adds great potential to
the project.
The new discovery is a gold-silver-copper mineralization, hosted
in shallow dipping tightly folded quartz-carbonate altered
mafic-ultramafic schist. Peak rock grab sample return 4.6 g/t Au
and 252 g/t Ag; another sample return 3.1 g/t Au, 136 g/t Ag and
9,2% Cu. Thin semi-massive sphalerite-chalcopyrite-galena veins
have been located in quartz-carbonate horizons in close association
with pyritizised sericite-muscovite altered mafic schists. High
silver content (+600 ppm) has been measured by hand-held XRF in
soil adjacent to quartz-carbonate horizons. Lately approx 200 meter
of channel sampling has been collected on this mineralized zone.
Results are pending.
The area of interest is characterized by intense scapolite-
talc- and calc-silicate alteration. ICP analyses of till samples
taken in areas of heavy scapolite alteration return consistent
elevated gold values.
The discovery is associated with a significant geophysical EM
anomaly that can be followed for along a 3 km strike.
Søren Lund Jensen (CEO) comments: "The extensive till sample
program carried out this 2011 field season has already proved to be
a strong tool in locating new sub-cropping mineralization's. We can
see that the till samples collected in the area show anomalous high
contents of As, Bi, Co, Cu, Cr and Mo. We have far from tested the
full potential of these geo-chemical path-finders for locating
sub-cropping polymetallic ore bodies. Based on these encouraging
results we have again decided to expand our license area."
