Brilon Reef Complex SEDEX-Mississippi-Valley Type Project
The Brilon Calamine district is situated approximately 50 km
west of Kassel, central Germany.
Brilon Minerals GmbH, a fully owned subsidiary of Scandinavian
Highlands Holding A/S, holds a 150.0 km2 big exploration
licence area. The target is large-scale SEDEX deposits hosted in a
c. 400 Ma old sedimentary reef (Brilon Reef). Zinc is the primary
commodity, but lead, silver and copper is frequently associated
with the main Zinc mineralisation. Calamine is the common
name for zinc-ore of carbonate (e.g. smithsonite) and hydrous
silicate (e.g. hemimorphite). Historically, a number of mines have
operated in the area, and they are included in our work.
Potential like the polymetallic Rammelsberg
mines
Our exploration licence covers the majority of the Devonian
carbonate reef, with SEDEX type mineralisations. The geological
setting of the reef is very similar to the setting of the world
class SEDEX Rammelsberg deposit in Harz, Germany. The western
zone of the area with the Altebürg lineament has in particular been
the object of earlier mineral explorations activities.
The critical transition between the Devonian shelf and basin
environment is presumed to lie within the licence area. This is
significant, because it can be linked to the same metal-rich
geological regime as the rich polymetallic mineralisations at
Rammelsberg and Meggen. The Brilon reef is cut by several dominant
NNW−SSE structures which emphasizes the potential of the area.
